Six People Injured in Seattle 3-Alarm Fire

The Seattle Fire Department deployed its Mass Casualty Incident unit to the three-story building blaze that had some people jumping to escape the flames.

At least six people were injured in a two-alarm fire that had some jumping from the three-story building to escape the flames and had the Seattle Fire Department sending its Mass Casualty Incident unit to the scene early Monday.

The blaze broke out shortly before 5 a.m. at a building connected to the Hillside Hotel, KOMO-TV reports. Once crews reached the scene, they found everyone inside the building had gotten out, but some suffered burns and injuries from leaping from the burning building.

The department's Mass Casualty Incident team was deployed, and firefighters were able to put out the blaze by 7 a.m., KING-TV reports.

"This was a very difficult fire," a department spokesman told KOMO, adding that crews "had to use ground ladders to get inside the building and do a search" because of the limited accessibility.

Six people were taken to Seattle's Harborview Medical Center, four with burn injuries. Two men and two women were in critical condition.

It's not clear if the building was part of the hotel or simply attached as apartments, according to KOMO.
