WESTPORT, CT—Firefighters extinguished a house fire Friday morning on Roosevelt Road that was undergoing renovations.
Assistant Chief Matthew Cohen said the Westport Fire Department was called at around 5:30 a.m. for a report of smoke in the area of Compo Beach.
When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire in a two-and-a-half story house.
Four engines, one ladder, and the shift commander responded with a mutual aid engine from Norwalk.
“Firefighters reported heavy fire out of the roof and fire on the second floor,” Cohen said in a release.
“Fire units searched the structure for victims and began to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the areas encountered by arriving units and the scene was turned over to the Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.”
There were no civilian injuries and one firefighter sustained minor injuries. That firefighter was treated and released from a medical facility.
Engine 4 remained on scene to assist the Fire Marshal’s Office and the cause is under investigation.
According to Westport property records, the eight-room house was built in 1922.
The house has four bedrooms and 2,177 square feet of living space.
The house and property have an appraised value of $1,642,900.
