FL Firefighters Rescue Two People, Pets from Apartment Blaze

Along with helping two people safely escape the second floor of a burning apartment building, Ocala Fire Rescue crews also saved two parakeets, a dog and a turtle.

Florida firefighters rescued two people and multiple pets from a burning apartment Friday.

Ocala Fire Rescue crews responded to a fire at Berkley Pointe Apartments shortly after 7:50 p.m., the department said in a press release. When they arrived, they encountered black smoke coming from a first-story unit.

One person was rescued from a second-story window, and firefighters helped another person safely escape the second floor via the stairs. Two parakeets, a dog and a turtle also were saved, according to the department.

The fire was put out by 8:10 p.m. No injuries were reported.
