A D.C. Fire and EMS apparatus was damaged and a firefighter was injured when a 33-year-old man allegedly attacked crews responding to a fire he had started on purpose.

A 33-year-old man is accused of intentionally setting a fire and then attacking the Washington, D.C., firefighters who responded to the call, damaging an apparatus and injuring a first responder.

DC Fire and EMS crews responded to a fire in the northeast part of the district Thursday evening, WJLA-TV reports. At the scene, a man allegedly confronted firefighters as they tried to put out the blaze, and police then were called.

The situation escalated, and the man, identified as Seth Andrews, broke the driver's-side window of a fire apparatus. A firefighter also was injured in the incident.

After he was handcuffed by police, Andrews allegedly broke an officer's hands when he kicked a squad car's door closed, according to WJLA. The officer was taken to the hospital, but no details were released concerning the injuries.

When Andrews was arrested and charged in connection with the fire and assault Thursday police found that he also was wanted for the murder of a 67-year-old woman last month, WJLA added.
