Several buildings were set ablaze as protests continued Monday night into Tuesday morning in Kenosha, WI, following the police shooting of a Black man, Jacob Blake.
A mattress store was among the structures set on fire overnight after a curfew went into effect Monday evening, Milwaukee news station WITI reported.
Flames and smoke were visible from blocks away as the fires burned. A two-story building was then set on fire later in the night.
The mattress store burned down, according to the TV outlet. A fire was also set to a Kenosha parole office.
Protesters set off fireworks and a garbage truck was set on fire during the demonstrations, while officers in riot gear used tear gas amid the unrest.
The protests, which continued into Tuesday morning, marked the second night of demonstrations in Kenosha following the shooting of Blake, 29, on Sunday.
Lawyer Ben Crump, who is representing Blake’s family, said Blake’s three children witnessed their father being shot multiple times.
Police have said they were responding to a domestic incident. Video from the scene appears to show Blake attempting to get into an SUV when the gunfire started.
After being shot, Blake was hospitalized in serious condition. Two Kenosha officers have been placed on leave amid an investigation.
Kenosha, which has a population of a little over 100,000 people, is located about 40 miles south of Milwaukee.
