CA Firefighters Rescue Elderly Woman from Residential Blaze

A Sacramento firefighter briefly became lost inside the burning single-story home while looking for the only door out, but he was located by his fellow firefighters and able to safely escape.

California firefighters rescued an elderly woman from inside a burning house early Thursday. A firefighter also was briefly trapped during the call but was able to safely escape.

The fire broke out at about 3 a.m. at home in Sacramento, KCRA-TV reports. An elderly man and woman were home at the time.

The man safely escaped the blaze, and once crews reached the scene, he told them about the woman—thought to be the man's wife—still inside the residence. Firefighters were able to locate and pull the woman from the burning home. She was taken to the hospital where she was being treated for burns and was in critical condition.

Security bars on the doors and windows were concerns for crews during the blaze, and a firefighter became lost inside the house when was unable to find the only door outside. His colleagues were able to quickly located him, and he was able to get out of the house safely, according to KCRA.
