FL Firefighters Save Woman, Dogs from Raging Residential Fire

"Our firefighters did exactly what our citizens expect in carrying out our mission of saving lives and protecting property," said a Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman.

BELLEVIEW, FL—Multiple fire units put out a motel fire and firefighters rescued a woman and two dogs from dangerous flames on Friday.

Firefighters were alerted to a fire at the Vin Mar Hotel in the 5000 block of Abshier Boulevard in Belleview shorthy after 6 p.m. according to James Lucas, spokesman for Marion County Fire Rescue in a news release Friday.

When fire crews arrived, they saw flames and smoke coming from two rooms. Firefighters entered all of the rooms, looking for residents and found a woman confined to a bed. She was removed from the room and then taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Two dogs were also taken from the rooms. Several other fire houses pitched in to prevent the fire from spreading.

Fire Chief James Banta said he was proud of his firefighters.

"Our firefighters did exactly what our citizens expect in carrying out our mission of saving lives and protecting property," Banta said.
