PANAMA CITY, FL—One person is recovering at an area hospital following a structure fire Monday evening.
The Panama City Fire Department responded to the fire at 429 Massalina Drive about 8 p.m.
According to a PCFD press release, while en route firefighters were informed that the structure was possibly occupied.
PCFD units arrived to find a two-story, wood-framed structure that consisted of six residential units with heavy smoke and fire showing.
Firefighters immediately rescued a first-floor occupant and administered treatment before EMS arrived and took the victim to an area hospital.
After the fire was brought under control, primary and secondary searches were conducted. There were no other occupants in the building.
The local chapter of the American Red Cross is aiding several of the displaced people and a state fire marshal is investigating the blaze.
PCFD officials urged everyone to regularly test their smoke detectors and have an evacuation plan in the event of an emergency.
