Two residents and their two dogs and two cats were displaced Wednesday after a fire destroyed their house north of Campo, a CAL FIRE official said.
The fire broke out about 4:50 p.m. at the home on Buckman Springs Road near Hyde Park Lane, in a sparsely populated area southeast of Lake Morena County Park. Flames fully engulfed the house and spread to a small spot of vegetation, CAL FIRE Capt. Thomas Shoots said.
He said embers blown by gusty winds threatened to grow the fire.
Border Patrol officers went to a nearby home to evacuate residents, though it was unclear if evacuations happened. A stretch of Buckman Springs Road was closed.
Cleveland National Forrest firefighters were called in to help put out the brush fire while most CAL FIRE crews focused on the house fire, Shoots said.
The flames were knocked down by 6:30 p.m.
