MA Firefighters Pull Unconscious Woman from Fire

Dec. 29, 2020
“She was unconscious and still breathing. She was in trouble,” said the chief for Dartmouth Fire District 2 after firefighters rescued the woman from a burning home.

A fire that broke out near a Christmas tree at a Massachusetts house Monday morning left a woman hospitalized, her dog dead and the home totaled, authorities said.

Crews from Dartmouth Fire District 2 arrived at the scene of the fire in the 600 block of Tucker Road shortly after 8:30 a.m. and found the two-story, three-bedroom home completely ablaze, according to officials.

Flames were pouring out of the house’s windows, doors and roof, District 2 Fire Chief Tim Andre described.

Firefighters found the woman in her bedroom in the back corner of the home. She was rescued from the house and taken to the hospital, where she was still being treated for her injuries as of Tuesday morning, according to Andre. Her condition was not disclosed.

“She was unconscious and still breathing. She was in trouble,” Andre told MassLive.

The blaze was extinguished 15 to 20 minutes after firefighters arrived. The woman’s dog died in the fire, and her house was left in ruin, according to the fire chief.

“The house is still standing, but I don’t think it would be habitable at all,” he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, though Andre noted it started in the area of a fake Christmas tree and “a lot of plug-in-type ornaments.”

“We found a lot melted electronics, wires, Christmas lights, stuff like that,” he said. “There’s a lot of stuff dig through, so we don’t know the cause yet. We know it started in that general area.”
