MD Firefighter, Civilian Injured in Residential Fire

More than 50 Annapolis firefighters battled a fire that erupted on the second floor of a middle-of-the-row townhouse and spread to nearby residences.

A Maryland firefighter and a civilian were injured in a residential fire Wednesday.

The fire broke out at about 2:15 p.m. on the second floor of a middle-of-the-row townhouse in Annapolis, the fire department stated. Smoking materials are thought to have ignited a plastic-covered mattress, and flames spread into the attic and to nearby homes.

One firefighter suffered minor burns battling the fire and was taken to the hospital. A resident also hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

More than 50 firefighters responded to the call, and crews were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes. Two townhouses were severely damaged and a third suffered minor damage from the fire, which displaced 10 residents.
