MA Crews Battle Second Fire at Home in Nearly Four Months

Jan. 20, 2021
Worcester firefighters put out a fire at the vacant house in late September, and a three-alarm blaze Tuesday had crews returning to the home, which is more than 120 years old.

WORCESTER, MAFirefighters battled a three-alarm fire in a vacant house on Oxford Street early Tuesday.

Crews were called to 26 Oxford St. about 12:30 a.m. by a neighbor who reported they could see flames from the lower level of the house. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire coming from the first floor of the two-story building.

The fire quickly went to a second alarm and later to a third as the fire spread, and dangerous conditions forced firefighters to fight the flames from the outside of the building.

The fire is the second at the home. The first happened on Sept. 30. That fire damaged the first floor and the back of the house, which is more than 120 years old.

Firefighters Tuesday morning encountered boarded-up windows.

The fire burned for more than an hour as crews worked to bring it under control.
