Two boys were pulled from a burning house by Texas firefighters Monday.
The fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. in Fort Worth, according to a fire department press release. Firefighters at the scene encountered an injured man in the yard as crews immediately began attacking the flames.
The man told firefighters that two children were still inside the burning house. Two boys—13 months old and 4 years old—were found inside the home's bedroom area and rescued.
"(Firefighters) simultaneously made an aggressive attack on the fire and engaged in a search of the home that lead to rescue and immediate care of the small two children," the department stated. "These children have the chance to fight for their lives because of the firefighters' training, dedication and … commitment to serve others."
The man was airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, and the two boys were rushed Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, the department stated. The man suffered from smoke inhalation and other traumatic injuries and was in stable condition.
Both boys were first transported to Parkland Hospital after they were stabilized and then taken to Dallas Children's hospital. The 13-month-old boy suffered from smoke inhalation and second-degree burns and was in critical but stable condition. The 4-year-old also suffered from smoke inhalation and was in critical but stable condition, as well.
"The thoughts and prayers of the City of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Fire Department are with this family," the department stated.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Officials believe it was accidental, and foul play is not suspected.
