A person was rescued from a residential building that caught fire Sunday, displacing more than 50 people and causing $1.75 million in damage Sunday.
The fire broke out shortly after 4 p.m. at four-story apartment building off Interstate 270 in Gaithersburg in Montgomery County, the Washington Post reports. Roughly 85 firefighters responded to the call as flames erupted in the ceiling and floor area between the second and third floors.
An aerial was needed to save one person from the burning building's third floor, while firefighters also helped other residents out of the structure, Pete Piringer, a spokesman for Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service, stated in a social media update. No injuries were reported, but medics evaluated several residents at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials believe it was accidental.
