KS Firefighters Rescue Resident in Subzero Temps
A photo of a fire helmet covered in soot and ice is making its way around social media, giving those who follow the fire service community a sense of the biting cold that many firefighters have been dealing with in recent days.
With a deep freeze settling over many parts of the United States, including unprecedented ice and snow blanketing portions of the south and southwest, the Great Bend, KS, Fire/EMS Department posted details of a rescue from last weekend along with an incredible photo of the helmet.
According to the Facebook post, Great Bend firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames at a residential house fire early this past Sunday around 3:49 am amid a minus-4 temperature and -14 wind chill.
Shortly after arriving, crews entered the home and were able to quickly locate and rescue a resident who was still inside. Firefighters remained on scene for most of the morning, and the cause of the fire is undetermined.
