Off-Duty CT Firefighter Uses Forklift to Deal with Truck Fire

Northville Assistant Fire Chief Jason Street jumped in a forklift to move a truck after it caught fire in a loading dock at Omaha Beef Company, where Street works as a manager.

Fast action by an off-duty Connecticut assistant fire chief helped deal with a burning truck over the weekend.

The incident happened at around 7:45 Saturday when a truck caught fire in the loading dock for Omaha Beef Company in Danbury, the fire department stated in an online update. Before crews arrived, Northville Assistant Fire Chief Jason Street—a manager with Omaha Beef Company—grabbed a forklift to raise the rear of the truck and dragged it from the loading dock to the roadway.

Once Danbury firefighters arrived, they were able to extinguish the flames quickly. No injuries were reported, and the fire is under investigation.

"Excellent work from our Assistant Chief," the Northville Fire Department stated in a social media post. "It just goes to show things can happen when they’re least expected, but some outside-the-box thinking can make all the difference!!"
