Oklahoma firefighters needed to remove window bars to rescue a woman moments before a four-alarm fire engulfed a commercial building Tuesday.
The fire broke out shortly before 6:30 p.m. at a vacant commercial building in downtown Oklahoma City, KWTV-TV reports. More than 75 firefighters responded to the call, and they encountered heavy smoke and visible flames coming from the building.
A woman was trapped in the building at the time of the fire, and firefighters needed to use hand tools and other equipment to remove the window bars to reach her. They were able to pull her out of the building just before flames engulfed it.
The woman was taken to the hospital, and details about her injuries and condition were not released.
The fire collapsed the building's roof and exterior walls, sending bricks to the street, the department said in an online update. Firefighters worked overnight to control the blaze and were still at the scene Wednesday morning to deal with hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
