Watch CT Firefighters Tackle Raging Vacant Factory Fire

March 25, 2021
Crews from Enfield's five fire departments battled a three-alarm fire that tore through an unused factory building, and its proximity to train tracks suspended train service.

ENFIELD, CT—All five of the town's fire departments responded to a fire at an unused factory building on North River Street this morning.

Fire Department spokesman Mark Zarcaro said the departments were dispatched around 6:45 a.m. to a fire at 33 N. River St.

Zarcaro said firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but as of 8 a.m. they were still spraying the site with water as it continued to emit a lot of smoke.

Meanwhile, Eversource cut power to some homes in the neighborhood, and because of the building's proximity to the train tracks Amtrak service was suspended, Zarcaro said.

Zarcaro said the building isn't in use, and the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Fire personnel from Suffield and Somers were in town this morning providing assistance.
