FL Firefighters Battle Intense Flames amid Fire-Induced Blast

April 21, 2021
Crews from several departments responded to a fire that erupted at a Styrofoam manufacturing warehouse in Oakland Park and caused an explosion.

An intense fire in an Oakland Park warehouse was brought under control within 30 minutes, but not before it caused an explosion inside the building, according to a city official.

The resulting thick plumes of dark gray smoke could be seen for miles.

It happened at about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 4200 block of Northeast Sixth Avenue, just southwest of Prospect Road and North Dixie Highway, at a warehouse that manufactures Styrofoam, city spokeswoman Shannon Vezina said.

“We do know that there was an explosion at the business there,” Vezina said.

People were evacuated from the business as firefighters from several departments battled the blaze.

There were no reports of injuries.

Florida Power and Light has shut down power in the area as a precaution.
