DC Firefighters Save Critically Injured Woman in Rowhouse Fire

A D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a two-alarm residential fire that spread to two neighboring homes.

Washington, D.C., firefighters rescued a critically injured woman from a two-alarm fire early Wednesday.

Around 90 D.C. Fire and EMS firefighters responded shortly before 4 a.m. to a call concerning a rowhouse fire in the district's Southeast section, WRC-TV reports. Flames erupted on the first and second floors of the residence and then spread to nearby homes.

Firefighters pulled a woman from the first floor of the burning rowhouse, and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. A firefighter suffered minor injuries during the fire.

Crews worked for about an hour to get the fire under control and remained at the scene to put out hot spots. They also extinguished flames that had spread to homes on either side of the rowhouse that had initially caught fire.

Six people were displaced by the fire, and its cause is under investigation.
