Firefighters in Philadelphia rescued two children who were hanging from the second-floor window of a row home to escape a raging fire Wednesday.
Police are now investigating because they believe the blaze in the city’s Bridesburg neighborhood may have been intentionally set, NBC 10 is reporting.
When the fire broke out around 2 a.m., flames quickly spread through the row home on the 2000 block of Kennedy Street, Action News 6 ABC is reporting.
Crews used ladders to rescue the children – an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl – and rescued their grandmother through the front door, reports indicate.
“When I came out, there were flames shooting up in the back and all that, embers flying all over. Went up pretty fast,” neighbor Pat Doyle told 6 ABC.
The children were rushed to the hospital and are in stable condition, and their grandmother is in critical condition after suffering from smoke inhalation, reports indicate.
According to reports, police believe the fire, which gutted the home, was intentionally set and could be related to a domestic situation involving the mother’s ex-boyfriend. The mother was not in the home when the blaze broke out, reports indicate.
Three neighbors in a next-door row home were also displaced by the fire, according to reports.
The fire remains under investigation.
