All-Hands House Fire Sends Two FDNY Firefighters to Hospital

Roughly 60 firefighters worked for nearly an hour to get control of a fire that broke out at a two-story home in the Westerleigh neighborhood of Staten Island.

Two FDNY firefighters were injured during an all-hands house fire on Staten Island on Tuesday.

The residential fire broke out just after midnight in the Westerleigh neighborhood, the Staten Island Advance reports. Roughly 60 firefighters, along with 12 units, responded to the call and worked to put out the fire at the two-story home.

While battling the flames, two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. No details were released concerning how the firefighters were injured or the extent of those injuries.

Crews needed a little less than an hour to put out the fire, which was under control just before 1 a.m.

The fire appeared to cause severe damage inside the house, and the doors and windows were boarded up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
