MD Firefighter Injured in House Fire Flown to Trauma Center

Two Ocean City firefighters were injured while responding to a fire that erupted at a single-story house in West Ocean City that threatened additional structures.

A Maryland firefighter was airlifted to a trauma center after being injured during a house fire early Tuesday.

Ocean City crews responded to a call shortly before 2 a.m. at a single-story home with a large attached garage in West Ocean City, the department stated in an online update. Once at the scene, firefighters worked to keep flames from spreading to additional structures near the burning home.

One firefighter suffered burns and smoke inhalation during the call. The first responder was flown to a trauma center by a Maryland State Police helicopter.

A second firefighter also was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury. Injuries to both firefighters weren't considered life-threatening.

Crews were still at the scene as of 4:30 a.m., according to the department. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office.
