Large MD House Fire Causes $1.5M in Damages
More than 50 Maryland firefighters battled a large residential fire that caused over $1.5 million in damages early Monday.
The fire broke out at a home in Bethesda, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer stated in a series of online updates. More than 50 firefighters responded to the call and encountered heavy flames coming from the home, Bethesda Magazine reports.
The fire partially collapsed the house, and damages were estimated at more than $1.5 million, according to Piringer. No injuries were reported.
Although the cause of the fire is still under investigation, it's possible that it was ignited by spontaneous combustion of rags and brushes soaked in floor stainer, Piringer said. A fireworks display had happened near the home around the time of the fire, but that has been mostly ruled out as a cause, he added.
