Two Ohio firefighters and two civilians were injured during a fire that destroyed a house and damaged neighboring residences Tuesday.
The fire broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. in East Liverpool's Sunnyside neighborhood, The Morning Journal reports. When firefighters reached the scene, they encountered water issues, with one hydrant broken and another experiencing low pressure.
Crews from other departments were called in to provide a tanker shuttle and help with the call. An aerial also dumped 2,000 gallons of water per minute on the flames, as crews switched to a defensive mode when an interior attack became too dangerous.
Two occupants were able to escape the burning house by leaping from a second-floor window before crews arrived, East Liverpool's firefighters union stated in an online update. They were taken to the hospital with injuries that weren't considered life-threatening.
During the call, two East Liverpool firefighters also were injured. They were hospitalized, but no details were released concerning the extent of the injuries.
The fire was finally put out at about 5 a.m. Wednesday, leaving one house totaled and causing heat damage to two nearby homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
