Fire Damages Roof of New Orleans Superdome
One person was injured in a fire that had flames shooting from the roof of the Caesars Superdome on Tuesday afternoon.
Workers were preparing to paint the roof of the sports and event venue when a pressure washer caught fire and spread to the building.
The stadium was evacuated as thick black smoke billowed from the roof just after 12:30 p.m., according to NOLA.com.
A third alarm was called due to the size of the structure and the unknown extent of fire spread, fire officials said. Over 50 firefighters responded.
The fire started in a walkway around the edge of the building's roof and the fire was under control in 30 minutes.
The firm who manages the building told the website that the fire did not appear to damage the structure.
The stadium has not been used since Hurricane Ida hit New Orleans earlier this month and was expected to reopen for the New Orleans Saints' next game on Oct. 3. The fire, officials said, would not delay the re-opening.
Fire officials said a worker was injured and taken to the hospital.
