A tanker truck loaded with 10,000 gallons of diesel fuel rolled over at a Revere rotary Wednesday morning, spilling its contents onto the street a block from a city environmental preserve.
The truck tipped over at roughly 4 a.m. by the Brown Circle Rotary, which sits at the intersection of Route 60 and Broadway, reports said.
The rotary is adjacent to the city’s Sea Plane Basin conservation land, a marshy area just inland from Revere Beach. Some of the fuel made it into the nearby water, Boston 25 reported.
The United States Coast Guard and state Department of Environmental Protection both responded to the crash scene. The Coast Guard will investigate the extent to which the water was polluted and coordinate a cleanup, WHDH said.
Revere Fire Chief Chris Bright said that there have been a number of rollover crashes at the rotary in recent years, WCVB reported. There were no injuries this morning, Bright said.
Fire crews sprayed foam to suppress the fuel vapors, Brights said. The rotary is expected to be shut down for much of the day as crews continue to clean and contain the spill.
By 7 a.m., a crane was being used to turn the truck back over.
