Abandoned TX Eatery a Total Loss after Fire

Oct. 22, 2021
An abandoned San Antonio restaurant was demolished on Thursday after firefighters worked to douse the flames that consumed the building.

Oct. 21—Investigators are trying to determine the cause of a fire Thursday morning on the South Side.

San Antonio firefighters were dispatched just after 10:30 a.m. to an abandoned restaurant in the 2200 block of SE Military Drive that was on fire.

When crews arrived, they found a heavy fire and smoke coming from the building. When they finally entered, firefighters had to exit quickly due to deteriorating conditions inside, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.

"The cause of the fire is officially under investigation, but is suspicious in nature as there were no utilities active in the building and due to reports of vagrants recently staying inside the property," said Joe Arrington, a spokesman with the fire department.

No injuries were reported and the structure was a total loss, SAFD said.
