A massive fire destroyed an auto auction warehouse Tuesday night in Camden County, resulting in the closure of the southbound lanes of Route 130 early Wednesday, authorities said.
Firefighters from several departments were called about 10:30 p.m. to a four-alarm blaze at the U.S. Auto Auction building in the 6600 block of South Crescent Boulevard in Pennsauken. Video from the scene showed the building engulfed in a raging inferno.
“We had several explosions in the building due to cars being stored in the building,” Pennsauken Fire Chief Joseph Palumbo told reporters at the scene.
At least three businesses in the warehouse may have been destroyed, and firefighters were sent to a nearby neighborhood as embers from the blaze raised concerns of the fire spreading, Palumbo said.
There were no injuries to firefighters and the building was not occupied at the time of the fire, officials said.
As of early Wednesday, all lanes of Route 130 South remained closed and detoured north of Route 38, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
