A contractor working near an apartment complex in Bridgeport sprung into action Friday morning to rescue multiple victims using his ground ladder.
The worker helped three women and two children to safety during the incident.
According to Bridgeport officials, the two-alarm fire appeared to start on the second floor before extending to the third floor and roof. As crews worked inside to control the fire, multiple firefighters worked to open up the roof to support interior operations.
The Red Cross is working to shelter over 60 people displaced during the fire, and an official investigation is underway.
