Ventura County firefighters battled a structure fire in Simi Valley early Friday evening that was suspicious in nature and may have been intentionally set, according to Simi Valley police.
Ventura County firefighters arrived to a fully involved single family dwelling fire and set up defensive operations due to the initial reports. Police advised fire to don bulletproof vest as they provided force protection with rifles to ensure firefighter safety.
Officers with Simi Valley police located an individual nearby with injuries related to the fire incident who was transported to a local trauma center with stab wounds.
Fire crews set up aerial devices and deployed handlines to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures. Once it was determined there was no longer a threat, fire crews returned to normal suppression operations.
