Colorado Springs firefighters were challenged by two separate apartment fires in 24 hours, resulting in numerous rescues and a fatality.

Colorado Springs firefighters worked two separate apartment fire incidents in 24 hours that resulted in rescues and a fatality leading to an arrest.

Firefighters responded to a fire at the Enfield Apartments on Sunday night where an individual died after jumping from the third floor to avoid the smoke and fire conditions.

Upon arrival firefighters reported heavy fire conditions from the third floor and were able to rescue an individual from the building who was transported for smoke inhalation. Department officials state the fire was contained to one apartment. Colorado Springs Police report they have made an arrest in this incident.

The second incident late Monday morning at the Prospect Park apartments was upgraded to two alarms as fire conditions prevented two occupants from being able to evacuate. Firefighters used a ground ladder to rescue a child and adult from the building.

Multiple occupants were treated for smoke inhalation, and the fire is under investigation.
