Santa Barbara City firefighters were dispatched to a dwelling incident Wednesday morning around 9:53 a.m., for smoke in a residential structure. Prior to the fire department arriving, officers from the Santa Barbara police department came on scene and reported heavy flames with screaming coming from inside the home.

Police were able to locate a trapped individual inside the burning structure and used a baton to gain access by breaking a window. Working alongside a local business owner, officers reached in the window and pulled the occupant to safety.

Firefighters arrived shortly after the rescue and were able to control the blaze within minutes. During operations fire crews were able to locate the family pets and move them to safety. The home occupant was transported, while multiple police officers were injured and received medical care.
