Two residents and a firefighter were hurt early Tuesday during a house fire in Upper Macungie Township, authorities report.
Fire crews we dispatched just after 1:30 a.m. to the 8100 block of Main Street for what was initially reported as a chimney fire with a female on the second floor unable to get out, the Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Company said in a Facebook post. It was later identified as a kitchen fire with entrapment, the post said.
When the first engine arrived, it reported a working fire with heavy smoke to the front of the home, the post said.
A crew tried to get to the second floor but was pushed back by heavy smoke and heat, the post said. Police reported a female hanging from a second floor window, but by the time firefighters got a ladder to the rear of the home, the person had jumped, the post said. EMS and police treated the female, the post said.
A second alarm was requested and six more fire stations responded to join the five already on the scene, the post said.
“Crews had a tough time with the fire because of the type of construction and also the remodels,” the post said.
The two residents were taken to an area hospital and were stable, the post said. A firefighter was taken to an emergency room but was later released, the post said.
One cat was saved from the home but another died, the post said.
The post did not mention the investigation into the cause of the fire.
The home is owned by Ray D. Moyer, Lehigh County property records show.
