Defensive Attack Used on D.C. House Fire

Washington, D.C. firefighters battled a two-alarm house fire that engulfed an apparent vacant home Tuesday morning.

Firefighters in Washington, D.C. battled an intense fire in an apparent vacant home Tuesday morning.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy fire showing from multiple first and second floor windows of the home in the 5400 block of Colorado Avenue NW and started an offensive attack.

As conditions changed, crews transitioned to a defensive strategy using handlines and aerial devices to control the fire.

Once firefighters were able to knock down the fire, they re-entered the home to extinguish the remaining hot spots and begin overhaul operations.

DC Fire and EMS reported that 20 units and over 100 fire personnel worked the incident.
