A Canton house fire left three firefighters and two residents injured when fire spread from the second floor into the attic.

CANTON - A house fire injured multiple people - three were firefighters - on Thursday in the 1000 block of Fifth Street SW in Canton.

The blaze was reported at 10:52 a.m.

Battalion Fire Chief Eric Ohman said three firefighters were treated for minor injuries and remained on scene.

Two people, who were in the house, were taken to Aultman Hospital. Their conditions were not known as of 9 p.m. Thursday, Ohman said.

The fire department posted a video of the blaze on Facebook (no audio):

Firefighters said flames were reported coming from an upstairs bedroom window and the fire extended into the attic where the blaze was contained.

Ohman said the first floor of the house sustained some water damage. The second floor and attic sustained heavy fire and smoke damage.

He added that one of the two people in the house jumped from a second-floor window and ran to a neighbor's house. Both people were found at the neighbor's, Ohman said.

The cause and origin of the fire remain undetermined.
