Wind-Driven MA Fire Destroys Three Buildings

No one was hurt in the 9-alarm fire that ripped through multiple buildings Monday in Salisbury including a large motel, according to WBZ.
Salisbury Fire Captain Andrew Murphy told WBZ that the fire was likely the largest fire in Salisbury history but no one was hurt.
The American Red Cross is on the scene and said it is caring for more than 30 people who were displaced by the fire.
The flames began at Michael’s Oceanfront Motel on Central Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. and eventually consumed two other neighboring buildings, according to NBC10.
Mutual aid responded to the scene including crews from New Hampshire.
High winds could be seen whipping the fire into an intense blaze as firefighters worked to battle it Monday morning. The wind continued to be a factor even late Monday morning as crews focused on hot spots from the fire, according to WBZ.
Salisbury Emergency Management is on the scene with the American Red Cross to help anyone displaced by the fire, police said. A warming and temporary shelter has been set up at 43 Lafayette Road, authorities said.
The fire has shut down nearby roads and power and utilities were shut off along Central Avenue, police said. Authorities are asking motorists to avoid the area.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said Route 1A by Sunset View Lane was shut down because of the fire. Shortly after 10 a.m., though, the roadway reopened.
