A fire involving propane tanks caused close to $1 million in damage to a Annville Township automotive shop.

Damage to an Annville Township automotive service shop is estimated at $900,000 after a fire Friday morning.

At 6:54 a.m., firefighters from Palmyra Fire Department and Neversink Fire Company were dispatched to Ed’s Automotive Services at 1324 E Main St..

According to a post on the Annville-Cleona Fire District’s Facebook page, first responders arrived to find one of the garage bays engulfed in fire, which rapidly spread to the rest of the building. There were acetylene tank explosions, and exposed electrical hazards.

The firefighters called a second alarm for additional assistance as they battled not only the structure fire, but also four 120-gallon propane tanks located behind the building that were ventilating.

The business owner, who was in the building at the time of the fire, was not injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation according to the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal. Officials also reported the fire is not being considered suspicious.
