An estimated two dozen people in eight apartments were displaced due to a two-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon in Whitehall Township, according to the township’s fire chief.
One firefighter was taken to an area hospital, and another was treated at the scene for an electrical shock, Fire Chief David Nelson said.
It was reported shortly before 3 p.m. in a multi-family apartment building at 1343 N. 14th St.
Nelson requested an engine from the Allentown Fire Department and additional mutual aid from the Woodlawn, Greenawalds and Catasauqua fire departments.
“Due to the time of day our volunteers were shorthanded,” Nelson told lehighvalleylive.com by email.
Still, the firefighters “did an excellent job stopping and holding the fire” to two of the apartments in the eight-unit building.
A resident posted to Facebook video of helping neighbors evacuate to safety, and reported saving a few pets as the smoky fire began to spread.
The fire remained under investigation, Nelson said.
