An off-duty firefighter caught a baby dropped from a second-story window Sunday morning, rescuing the child from a blaze that destroyed a Boston home.
Firefighters responded to 22 Norton St. in Hyde Park at approximately 7:10 a.m. Sunday, the department said on Twitter, and found heavy fire in the rear of the multifamily home. A second alarm was struck to aid the firefighters in battling the fire.
The fire spread through the first and second stories of the building and across the roof.
An off-duty firefighter, who lived in the front unit of the building, caught a baby dropped by its mother from a second-floor window. The mother then jumped through the window to the ground below.
The department tweeted at 7:48 a.m. that the fire had been knocked down.
The fire department estimated that at least $500,000 worth of damage was done to the building. Seven residents were displaced and two were brought to the hospital, including the father of the baby.
No firefighter injuries were reported.
