The burglars broke through the front door and stole equipment valued at more than $50,000, Christiana fire officials reported.

Jul. 10—A Lancaster County fire company reported two thieves stole more than $50,000 in equipment from its station last month.

The Christiana Fire Company in Christiana said at 3:23 a.m. on June 12 intruders broke through the front door and stole "vital rescue tools" before leaving in two separate cars. The vehicles traveled south on Route 41 at Route 10 in Cochranville toward Kennett Square and Avondale, according to a release from Michael Ross, president of the company.

Ross did not specify what tools were taken but said they could be used to cut into stolen ATMs and asked business owners and operators to keep vigilant. Ross did not respond to a request for more information Thursday morning.

No members of the company were at the station when the theft happened and Christiana Borough police conducted an initial investigation, according to Ross. The release included images of two people in dark clothes from security footage at the station and two white sedans.

Ross said the fire company delayed releasing information about the theft so police could complete an initial investigation. Christiana Borough police did not respond to a request for more information Thursday morning.

Ross asked anyone with information to call Christiana Borough police Chief Brian Smyth at 610-593-5199.
