Firefighters and law enforcement rescued a man from a burning house on Sunday in Ventura, according to a press release from the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff's Office.

At 3:20 a.m., Cerro Gordo County deputies along with the Ventura Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residence in the 15000 block of Bayberry Avenue due to a report from the homeowner about a fire.

The first deputy on scene located the 68-year-old male homeowner inside the residence next to a wood stove that appeared to be the origin of the fire, according to the press release. The homeowner was unresponsive when found.

The deputy, assisted by Ventura Fire personnel who had arrived at the scene, pulled the homeowner outside the residence where lifesaving measures began. CPR and an Automatic External Defibrillator were used, and the homeowner later became responsive before being transported by Clear Lake Fire Medics to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for treatment.

The fire inside the residence was extinguished by the Ventura firefighters.

There were no other occupants in the residence at the time of the fire. The residence suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.
