National Volunteer Fire Council Seeks Proposals for Training Summit
The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) will host its fifth Training Summit on June 14-15, 2019, in Portland, OR. The NVFC is now accepting proposals from qualified instructors and speakers for presentations to educate first responders about critical issues in the fire and emergency services. Submit your proposal by January 20, 2019.
The Training Summit provides an opportunity to share ideas and best practices, network, and participate in training regarding first responder health, safety, and fire prevention topics. Each session will be two hours in length. Examples of relevant presentation topics include, but are not limited to:
- Specific physical health issues, such as cancer or heart disease
- Behavioral health (including suicide, addiction, and PTSD)
- On-the-job safety (such as traffic incident management)
- Personal protective equipment
- Functional fitness
- Fire service family support
- Leadership development
- Staffing, recruitment, and retention
- Diversity and inclusion
- Fire prevention
Applications must be submitted by January 20, 2019, at https://nvfc.wufoo.com/forms/2019-nvfc-training-summit-call-for-presentations/. A peer review team will evaluate all presentation proposals. Selections will be made based on quality, relevance, focus, practical application, and the presenter’s experience and credentials. Selected presenters will be notified by mid-February. The NVFC will cover travel expenses and provide a stipend for selected presenters (teaching teams are welcome to apply, but only one instructor per course can receive travel reimbursement). Please note, while organizations are welcome to apply to share their subject matter expertise, all courses must be educational in nature.
