Nationwide Insurance Promotes Grain Bin Rescue Training for First Responders

For Grain Bin Safety Week, Feb. 17-23, Nationwide, in partnership with National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), is awarding rescuers rescue tubes and training.

In conjunction with Grain Bin Safety Week (Feb. 17-23, 2019), Nationwide is teaming up with the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS)KC Supply and others to award emergency first responders with grain rescue tubes and hands-on rescue training to help save lives

Winning entries will be awarded: 

·        One (1) grain rescue tube, valued between $3,000 to $5,000

·         One (1) six-hour grain entrapment rescue training session, at winner’s location, valued at up to $5,000

Contest history

2019 marks the 6th year of Grain Bin Safety Week and the Nominate Your Fire Department Contest. Since 2014, the contest has received nearly 2,500 nominations and has awarded grain rescue tubes and hands-on rescue training to 77 fire departments across 24 states. Tubes have been used to save the lives of three farmers.

Dan Neenan, director of NECAS, travels with a state-of-the-art grain entrapment simulator and rescue tube to the winning locations to conduct the training session. Loaded on a 20-foot trailer and able to hold approximately 100 bushels of grain, the simulator is the perfect training ground.
