Training Opportunity Offered for Responses Involving People with Autism

Jan. 5, 2021
Courageous Kids Climbing will host “Autism in the Wild” on Feb. 27, a free 4-hour training opportunity designed to provide information on responding to incidents involving people with autism.

“Autism in the Wild” is a 4-hour training opportunity designed to provide first responders with information to assist them when responding to incidents involving people with autism. There is no charge to participate in this training.

Courageous Kids Climbing is excited to once again to be able to host this training. There will be two options for participation. You can attend in person or you can participate via ZOOM.

The training will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm (MST) at Our Savior Lutheran Church in McCall, Idaho.  The training will be conducted by The Isaac Foundation of Spokane, Washington.

In person participation will be limited to 40 individuals.  Reservations are REQUIRED!  We have elected to press forward with this option since first responders should have received the vaccination by then.  However, we will be enforcing Covid protocols to include facemasks, social distancing and hand sanitation until advised otherwise by the local health officials.  It is possible that there will be individuals present who have yet to receive the vaccine.

For those choosing to participate via ZOOM, we ask that upon completion of the training that you provide us with signed (training officer / chief) documentation stating that you have participated in the entire training program.  We will have a form available in the near future to help you with this.  Certificates for ZOOM viewers will not be issued until this documentation is received.

The ZOOM meeting information will be made available as the event date approaches.  Contact me if you want to be added to this mailing list.

This program will NOT be recorded due to contractual obligations.  Recording the training at the local level is not allowed.

If you need to spend the evening in the local area, we highly recommend The Ashley Inn in Cascade, Idaho.  A great place for dinner is Remington’s at the Chief, also in Cascade.  Both of these businesses are supporting this training program by taking care of the instructors during their visit to McCall.

For more information on this specific training opportunity, contact Courageous Kids Climbing at [email protected].

For information on how to conduct your own “Autism in the Wild” training program, contact Holly Goodman at the Isaac Foundation at [email protected].

Future plans call for Courageous Kids Climbing to provide training opportunities for first responders who lack specialized rope rescue skills to learn how they can support a rope rescue operation.  Contact Courageous Kids Climbing for more information.

Courageous Kids Climbing will be returning to the following locations to conduct our climbing opportunities for people with special needs in 2021 and hope you will support us:

CALIFORNIA: Bakersfield (4/17).

ARIZONA: Prescott (11/7).

NEVADA: Las Vegas (4/18), Henderson (11/6).

(We are currently working with the Idaho State Police in Lewiston on hosting a Climbing on Stuff adventure in which children who are legally blind will get to look at law enforcement equipment with their hands!  In April, the blind kids will be looking at fire trucks in Bakersfield, California.  If you would like to host a Climbing on Stuff adventure, drop us a line.)

We will also be conducting a climbing competition for first responders at The Commons Climbing Gym in Boise, Idaho on June 12.  Proceeds to benefit Courageous Kids Climbing.  Next year, we hope to conduct this competition in a few other cities.

On a final note, we have exhausted our supply of stuffed toys for first responders to give to kids during emergencies.
