Firefighters spent hours trying to contain the fire that started when tracer rounds ignited the rubber backstop in the gun range.

Firefighters battled a stubborn, smoldering fire at a Beech Grove gun range on Oct. 16.

Beech Grove firefighters responded with Indianapolis crews to Beech Grove Firearms and found smoke showing from the one-story building.

Officials said tracer rounds were fired and ignited the rubber backstop.

Firefighters spent several hours trying to contain the fire and hitting hot spots.

The ATF was called in to investigate the fire, which caused an estimated $2 million damage.
