New PA Law Lets FFs Break Into Cars to Save Pets

Dec. 26, 2018
The new law for Pennsylvania first responders went into effect on Christmas and does not cover private citizens.

A Pennsylvania law that went into effect Christmas Eve allows firefighters and police officers in the state to break into hot or cold cars in order to save dogs and cats inside. Before breaking in, a first responder must have a "good-faith, reasonable belief" that the animal faces danger or harm by staying in the vehicle. Private citizens are not covered under the law.
