Burton Fire District Battalion Chief Matt Maichel was able to perform CPR and use a portable defibrillator on a man having a heart attack.

A vacationing South Carolina firefighter is being praised after he saved a man suffering a heart attack last week at Disney World in Florida.

Burton Fire District Battalion Chief Matt Maichel was with his family at the Orlando amusement park when a woman began screaming for help for her husband, WSAV-TV reports. Maichlel responded by performing CPR and using a portable defibrillator on the man, who was suffering a heart attack.

"Anytime you can give quality CPR and early defibrillation it gives the victim the best chance for survival and not just survival but back to a quality of life," he told the TV station. "So hopefully that will happen for this gentleman also."
