A police officer also was injured in a car crash as he was responding to Tuesday night's extra-alarm fire in Hobart.

Three firefighters were hurt Tuesday night as they battled an extra-alarm blaze that tore through an Indiana building that was nearly 125 years old.

The fire happened just after 9 p.m. in Hobart, and authorities believe the blaze began in a tanning salon in the building, WBBM-TV reports. Crews were still handling hot spots at the scene Wednesday morning, and the building, which dates back to 1897, is thought to be a complete loss.

Authorities told WBBM that everyone was able to escape the burning building. Three firefighters, however, were injured extinguishing the blaze, and two of them were taken to a nearby hospital.

A police officer also was hurt in a car crash as he was responding to the call, according to the TV station Rescuers needed to cut the officer free from his cruiser following the accident, and his condition was not known Wednesday.
