An off-duty Detroit firefighter rescued a man from a burning house Thursday after seeing smoke coming from the residence as he was driving by with his 2-year-old son.
Amarre Dabney ran into the flames around 9 a.m. after a van parked between two homes caught fire, spreading to both houses, WDIV-TV reports. One of the homes was still occupied by Jeremy Carter.
Once inside, Dabney was able to find Carter inside—dashing out once to grab another lungful of air. Eventually, Dabney was able to lead Carter out of the blaze.
"Another day, just doing my job," Dabney told WDIV about the rescue.
